The Tamilnadu assembly spent almost a day "debating whether the government should impose a dress code for actors, after seeing the way Namitha and Shriya dresses at public functions and on television".
It all started when PMK Chief whip Velmurugan debating the motion of thanks to the Governor's address launched a broadside against Tamil television channels, including Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi's family run 'Kalaignar TV' "had been airing vulgar programmes which leads younger generation astray".
He was referring to Namitha's wardrobe in the popular dance showMaanadu Mayiladu on Kalaignar TV, where she is one of the judges for the programme. And Shriya's "inappropriate" attires at various events including the recent `Sivaji` 200 days function attended by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi.

The PMK, MLA's ire was targeted at TV channels owned by politicians which he said was "portraying women in poor light". The Electricity Minister Arcot Veerasamy said that no dress code could be enforced through a law. Added Veerasami: "All that we can do is to advise them to be appropriately dressed for the occasion".
Meanwhile Namitha and Shriya got a lot of free publicity which would work to their advantage!
