Raghuvaran (60), one of the famous actors in South India, passed away this morning in a private hospital here. He lead lonely with many physical ailments including drug addiction. Introduced as a hero in Ezhavathu Manithan in early the eighties, Raghuvaran touched many heights in his 30 years span of colourful career.
He gave a new definition to negative roles in films like Puriyatha Puthir, Badshah, Muthalvan and many other films. He has acted also as hero in films like Koottu Puzhukkal, Samsaaram Athu Minsaaram, Micheal Raj and
En Vazhi Thani Vazhi which did not do well at the Box-Office. Raghuvaran was married to actress Rohini. However, their marriage was a short-lived one and ended in divorce. He acted in more than 80 films in Tamil and Malayalam and had bagged many awards, including the Tamil Nadu government’s ‘Kalaimamani’ award and best character artiste award.
He had acted with all top actors, including superstar Rajnikant and Kamal Haasan .The actor had carved a niche for himself with his special style and voice modulation.
In 80’s, He became famous with his role as the protagonist of a Tamil soap opera, AVM’s ‘Oru Manidhanin Kadhai’ (A Man’s Story), about a well-to-do man, who becomes an alcoholic-drug addict and faces the consequent difficulties. Unfortunately in his real life too, he is known for his controversial drug addiction. His family too split on this regard and his wife actress Rohini was granted divorce a few years ago. But the actor was in touch with his son.
As a sincere Sai Baba devotee, Raghuvaran visited Puttabarthy regularly and he named his son also as Sai Sidharth.
Tamil film industry has been shocked by the sudden death of Raghuvaran and the Nadigar Sangam and Producer’s Council expressed its deep condolences over the death of this veteran.
